Alright I have had friends, coworkers, and even family ask about glow in the dark in and what it is and if it is even healthy to use. From research and speaking to multiple artists from around my area I have come to a conclusion that as of right now, glow in the dark ink is one of the most dangerous inks to use and would not suggest.
Though it is visually pleasing, the formula that they use inside of these inks are mainly phosphorus which can be really dangerous to use on the skin due to the fact it is only activated in UV lighting. There is a concern in the community about developing skin cancer due to the ingredients are inside of the ink.
After doing some research, I have actually found out that big time celebrities such as Lil Wayne, Kim Kardashian, and Lindsay Lohan all have glow in the dark tattoos. Now as of a few years ago, this ink was not FDA approved which led to discussions about what it could do in the skin long term. As of recently though, there has been a formula made in which there is an absence of phosphorus but tattoo artists around my area in New Jersey have not recommended it because it has not been out too long and that they are still unsure of what effects it can cause.
So I would like to introduce everyone to my older sister Suzie. Now she is 27 years old and is at this point covering herself in what her and I both love, tattoos. She has over 25 tattoos and is currently working on completing her one sleeve as of right now.
As you can see here, her arm and some of her hand has been done thus far and will be completed by early next year. She has been one of the biggest inspirations on my life as far as growing up and she has held my hand through almost everything. My sister has given me so much advice and knowledge about tattoos, her meanings, and why she has such a passion for them that it alluded to my current love for them as of right now. She goes to the same artist that was posted in my second post, Hans of Fast Times in Belmar. As a vegetarian, she swears by Eternal Ink which that shop highly promotes and invests a lot of time and money into this project of her.
Done by Hans back in January of 2014, her love of the Little Mermaid is really shown here as she wanted to incorporate the most significant part of her childhood on her body. Done using all vegan ink, shockingly as of today all of the color is still rich and beautiful over the course of almost three years. The ink has gone through multiple sunburns, rashes, and everyday wear and tear and is still as vibrant as when she first got the piece done.
Still done by all of the same artist, my sister has grown a taste of making her sleeve as colorful and fun as she can be. Shockingly enough all of these fun and girly tattoos have significant meanings behind them. The T-Rex shows who she is as a person, the joke being she has short arms and being a short girl with a slight temper, she is like a tiny dinosaur. As her sister…..this is more than accurate. The duck was for bath time as a kid in which are grandmother would sing to us as little girls while bathing and of course, rubber ducky you are the one…you make bath time so much fun! Further down you can see Bubbles from the Powderpuff Girls, her zodiac symbols and there are much more!
All together my sister has a unique outlook on tattoos. She does not care what they will sag into as we get older but rather she believes it will make her more of a beautiful person in return. Her tattoos are vibrant and fun and there is nothing too serious that appears on her arms which really shows her personality. She loves to be loud and vivid and her favorite; magical. She is the most magical human being I ever got to meet and I am so happy that it happens to be in my blood and be my sister.
